Your body is changing. The way you nourish it needs to change, too.

Nourished in Midlife is the ancestral nutrition guide I wish someone had handed me at 30. I created it after years of reading, trial and error, and figuring out what our bones, muscle, mental clarity, and energy need most in this season.

Somewhere in your 40s, your hormones stop behaving the way they have your whole adult life. Estrogen doesn't simply drain away โ€” for about half of women it swings higher than it's ever been before it drops. Ovulation gets less reliable, so progesterone thins out. Nothing is wrong with you. Your body is changing.

And because you have estrogen receptors nearly everywhere โ€” bone, muscle, brain, blood vessels โ€” you feel that change nearly everywhere. In the couple of years around your last period, bone loss speeds up and lean muscle starts to slip. That window is what this guide is about. I had to work it out on my own, in my 50s. You don't have to.

  • What's actually changing in your body โ€” and why food matters more now than it ever has
  • The foods and nutrients behind strong bones, lean muscle, a clear head, steady energy, and a healthy heart โ€” for this decade and the ones after it
  • How to turn all of that into simple, nutrient-dense meals you'll actually want to make

Ancestral Nutrition & Hormone Health for Women 40+

I was in perimenopause before I knew there was a word for it. I had never heard it. I just thought my body was how my body was.

I was eating whole foods only โ€” no junk, nothing processed โ€” and I was sure I was doing everything right. Yet I was bloated most days, and losing muscle so gradually I never even noticed it happening. I also had brain fog, which I didn't realize until it finally lifted.

The only thing I actually noticed was that my gums were starting to recede, seemingly out of the blue. My oral hygiene was meticulous, so it made no sense to me. Six dentists told me I was brushing too hard. I wasn't brushing hard โ€” so that answer never sat right. It took me a year of reading to connect the dots, and every one of them led back to my changing hormones.

That's when I connected it to my nutrition, too. I was short on the very nutrients that are hardest to get without animal foods โ€” complete protein, B12, retinol. When I changed how I eat, my body started coming back. Energy. Clear thinking. No more bloating. Nourished in Midlife is everything I learned โ€” all the nutrition we need as women in midlife and in the years to come.
