000 — A fresh start: welcome to Nourish with Katrina

Welcome. I am so glad you are here.

My name is Katrina and this is Nourish with Katrina — a podcast for women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who are ready to understand what their bodies need at this stage of life — and how those needs are different from what they were a decade ago.

If you have found this podcast, chances are you may already be experiencing some changes in your body. Maybe your energy is different. Maybe your digestion is unpredictable. Maybe your weight is changing despite nothing in your life being different. Maybe your thinking feels slower than it used to, your sleep less reliable, your body less familiar than it has always been. Maybe you have been to your doctor, been told your labs are normal, and walked away with more questions than answers.

That is exactly who this podcast is for.

I have been on a health journey for many years — drawn into ancestral health first through watching people I love navigate a medical system that treated their symptoms without ever addressing the foundation. That journey led me deep into study — through Ayurveda, through functional nutrition, and through years of independent research into how the body truly thrives. And then my own body gave me the most personal education of all.

I was in my early 50s when I finally began to understand what had been happening in my body. I had always considered myself healthy — I was at my ideal weight, had no diagnosed conditions, took no medications, and rarely needed to see a doctor for anything. So when changes began to arrive — a deep midafternoon fatigue that would hit reliably an hour or so after eating, bloating that had become so constant I no longer noticed it, brain fog that had settled in so quietly I did not recognize it as fog until it lifted — none of it registered as something worth investigating. It simply felt normal. I attributed it to being busy. To life.

And then there was something I never expected. My gums were receding — visibly — despite everything I thought I was doing right. I saw six different dentists trying to understand why. Nearly fifteen hundred dollars in consultations. By this point I was already eating a nutrient-dense, animal-based diet — the very approach most associated with dental and gum health. I told each one about my diet immediately. Each dentist had a different explanation for the recession. Nobody thought to ask about my hormones.

Years passed before I understood what was actually driving it all — a combination of hormonal change and three years of exclusive plant-based eating at exactly the time my body needed nutrient-dense animal foods most. The carb-heavy nature of that vegan diet was almost certainly driving the blood sugar crashes that produced the afternoon fatigue — and the hormonal changes happening at the same time made everything harder to recover from. Together they had been taking a toll on my body for years — and I had no idea.

When I changed what I was eating and gave my body what it had been asking for, the difference was significant. The fatigue lifted. The fog cleared. My thinking sharpened. My best friend noticed before I did — he said I was moving faster. That was the moment I understood something had genuinely shifted.

My own experience deepened everything I had already come to believe — that the body knows how to heal when it is given what it actually needs. That is what this podcast is built around.

Every episode is built around one idea: that the changes women experience at this stage of life are not inevitable. They are messages from a body that needs support. And when that support comes through nutrient-dense food, ancestral wisdom, gut health, and daily habits that work with the body's natural rhythms — the body responds. Women feel better. Stronger. Clearer.

So what will you find here?

Episodes that explain what is actually happening in your body during these years — in plain language, with the research and the ancestral wisdom behind every claim. Episodes on ancestral nutrition and why the foods that traditional cultures prized are the same foods your body is asking for right now. Episodes on gut health and why what happens in your digestive tract affects how you think, feel, sleep, and age. Episodes that challenge some of the nutrition advice that has shaped the past fifty years — and share what the research actually shows. And episodes on the daily rhythms — sleep, light, movement, stress — that support the body during one of the most significant seasons of a woman's life.

Each episode gives you something useful. A clearer picture of what is happening in your body. And one thing you can do differently — starting today.

I am genuinely honored that you are here.

Episode 001 is waiting for you whenever you are ready.

Until the next episode — wishing you a beautiful day, and may you enjoy vibrant health and freedom.
